Rolling With It Home NZ Oct-Nov 2011
"A Papamoa coastal garden by Damian Wendelborn provides structure to complement the rolling sand dunes.
"The design intent was to use materials and form to gesture out to the view and the beach and offer up a strong counterpoint to the rolling contour of the dunes."
A screen of the hardy native karo was planted along the southern boundary to soften the neighboring building. Level differences here were resolved by constructing a raised planter of half-height masonry blacks laid in a running bond pattern. On the opposite side of the section, screens of the hardwood Vitex block views of the neighbours' service area and provide a backdrop for pots and artwork.
…The inner courtyard offers a sheltered spot the owners can retreat to when the coastal winds are strong."
